Reflection on photo taken by Kevin Carter

The Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph was taken by Kevin Carter on his trip to Africa. It was a picture of a starving toddler trying to reach a feeding centre when a hooded vulture landed nearby. After taking that photograph, he left immediately as he was told not to touch the children for fear of transmitting disease. One question we asked ourselves was what is the purpose of this photo? We think that the purpose must have been to raise awareness about the poverty that is happening in Africa. Looking at this photograph made most of us upset as we could not do anything to help that toddler in the picture. All of us are fortunate enough to be living in Singapore where we have proper living conditions. Looking at this photograph also makes me question what the government of Africa has been doing to help these less fortunate people and also, what can we do to help? All of us lead such a comfortable lives, this photograph helped us stop and think for a moment about the people around us. Another question we asked ourselves is the purpose of this photo. We think that the purpose must have been to raise awareness about the poverty that is happening in Africa.
