Reflection on Chingay 2016
Personally, I think the purpose of Chingay 2016 was to bring a sense of community to the citizens of Singapore as well as send a message to the younger generation to work together to bring Singapore to greater heights in the next 50 years. Chingay is a float parade that includes performers from all walks of life as well as different races. All the performers worked together in coordination and performed in a manner that was truly spectacular in spite of their differences and backgrounds. Thus, I felt that there was a very strong unity between every one of us present.

In the first few Chingay parades, only the three main races existing in Singapore were included in segments of the parade. These 3 races were Chinese, Malay and Indian. The Eurasians were excluded along with any other races. However, I can see from the rehearsal that I attended that the parade has come to include groups from all over the world, such as the Japanese and Thai. They wore intricate, beautifully designed traditional costumes as part of their performance. There was also a segment that, in my opinion, bore a resemblance to the Venetian Carnevale with people dressed as jesters wearing masks and balancing in stilts. I think this change is to signify the good relationships Singapore has with countries all over the world.
I think the organisers have successfully captured the good relations that Singapore has with other countries, as well as their alliance. They have also displayed the unity and patriotism that we Singaporeans have.

Reflection on happiness and poverty
Personally, I think that happiness is not, in any way, correlated to prosperity. Happiness, from my own perception, is derived from one's own experiences with loved ones, or perhaps doing something that one enjoys. Certainly, an individual might enjoy materialistic gains and feel happy, but so do the rest of us. Having expensive items and status, I think, is not true happiness. True happiness is when we do not tire of relieving a special memory when we felt happiness, and treasuring it dearly. Of course, one may be more able to set up the scenario in which we live a happy memory if one were more financially able. But in truth, happiness can be felt at any moment, no matter how simple.

Reflection on RV60
After the preview and actual performance, I have heard many people say that it was a very grand performance and very well-coordinated. I have heard people say that it was a very touching show of school spirit. I have also heard people say that RV inspires loyalty and spirit in every single one of us RVians. At the beginning of all the practices, I couldn't help but think,"What a waste of my time!" I thought that the entire performance was incredibly inane and showy. I was not happy to go for practice. Nevertheless, I always turned up (but that could have been due to the threat of CMDs hanging over my head). Over time, however, I got to know the people around me and we soon became fast friends. Things started getting fun and a lot of laughs were shared. Indeed, a lot of my own time was spent on practising. But on the flip side, I actually sincerely enjoyed the banter I shared with my new friends and the bonds we forged. I also learnt to persevere when we had to practise for hours on end under the hot sun and be patient when the choreography had to be changed due to technical problem. Perhaps, RV60 was not such a bad thing after all.
This photograph is of Block F, or rather, where most of the Year 1 classrooms are located. At the start of 2015, I followed my class's facilitators to this block and up 2 flights of steps to reach class 1J. From then on, this place would be my home away from home. In this block, I would create many memories with my new friends. As I write, recollections of running down the steps to get to the canteen first, talking about how much we disliked art while queueing up outside of the art room, come to mind. As I recall all the things that have happened in the past year, I can't help but think how much it has shaped me as a person. I remember thinking, on the very first day, about how this would be a fresh start, a clean slate. As I gained friends and warmed up to them, I became more open and less spiteful, like I was in primary school. I learned that perhaps, I was being too close-minded and letting my prejudices cloud my judgement of people. The people whom I am now proud to call my closest friends are an entirely different breed from those back in primary school. I think that I have since let go of my presumptions about people that allow me to be less cold towards people. All these memories who made me who I am today were made in this very Block and most of all, in class 1J.
✨Self-introduction
My name is Joey and I like to view the world through a camera lens. I see the world around me as art. My main hobby is, as you have probably figured out, photography. The sights and sounds around me are my muse and they give me inspiration. I also enjoy listening to music of all genres and reading books, mostly young adult fiction. I always carry around a book, earpieces and of course, my trusty phone to take pictures.
I love sitting in cafés sipping at a latte, earpieces plugged in and watching the world go by. Or perhaps losing myself in the fictitious world of a good book. I think of myself as a city girl, living a fast-paced lifestyle in an urban world of towering skyscrapers and bright lights. I dream of one day living in New York, or perhaps Europe.
